Dr. Carol Sze Ki Lin is currently an Associate Professor at School of Energy and Environment in City University of Hong Kong. Her academic background covers waste management, with special focus on development of integrated biorefineries utilising renewable resources including food and beverage wastes and by-product streams (e.g. waste streams from bakeries and mixed food waste from restaurant, textile waste). Dr. Lin also has experience in biochemical engineering, industrial (white) biotechnology, bioprocess design and techno-economic evaluation. Together with graduate students and colleagues, Dr. Lin has published over 148 research papers and 24 book chapters. She maintains a worldwide professional network through her service as an Associate Editor of the Biochemical Engineering Journal; Senior Editor for Sustainable Environment; Special Guest Editor for Green Chemistry, Topics in Current Chemistry, Process Safety and Environmental Protection, Current Opinion in Green and Sustainable Chemistry, Bioresource Technology, Journal of Hazardous Materials. Dr. Lin has been involved as an active member of various international commissions and committees, and regularly serves as an external assessor for international funding institutions.
Dr.
Benoît Cagnon is associate professor in Chemical Engineering
Process at the University of Orleans. He works at the Laboratory ICMN
(Interfaces, Confinement, Materials and Nanostructures – UMR 7374 CNRS) on
the adsorption process in liquid phase and on the study of different
Advanced Oxidation Processes to the removal and the mineralization of
organic pollutants. He also works on the elaboration of activated carbons
from biomass and tries to control the textural and the chemical properties
of the adsorbents obtained. He is author of 49 publications, 2 book chapters
and more than 100 conference proceedings.
Dr.
Sabino De Gisi is working in Politecnico di Bari, Italy. His work
is focused in the fields of environmental and materials engineering with a
focus on industrial wastewater treatment, management of municipal solid
waste and remediation of contaminated sites. Special interest regards the
mechanisms that facilitate the introduction of new (environmental)
technologies into society. The name of the presentation: New insights
into the management of post-consumer bio-plastics in the municipal solid
waste industrial cycle
Professor
Chenyu Du obtained his BEng and PhD degrees in the Department of
Chemical Engineering in Tsinghua University, China. In 2006, he moved to
the University of Manchester as a PDRA. In 2009, he joined the R&D team
of Biocaldol in London contributing to the development of the 2nd
generation of biofuel. In 2010, he was appointed as lecturer in the
University of Nottingham. In 2015, he moved to the University of
Huddersfield and was promoted to Professor in Biochemical Engineering in
2020. He has 20+ years research experience in fermentation, biosynthesis,
bioprocess development and simulation, bio-separation and biomass
pre-treatment. He has published 70+ high-impact publications. Since the
start of his academic career, he generated research income over £1.5 m as
PI, £14.3 m as Co-PI and supervised, co-supervised over 20 PhD students.
The presentation title will be: "The development of biorefining
strategy for the production of biofuel and biopolymers from marine based
resources"
